Just a little piece of good news, amidst all the heart-wrenching news we have to deal with every day. Darjeeling is all ready with open arms to welcome its tourists from July 1.
We all know Darjeeling to its complete glory. The luscious green tea estates, lurking in gold monasteries, snow-capped white mountains, and the mesmerizing architecture. After being in the lockdown for three complete months, you will now be able to experience its beauty in person and not virtually. Maybe face the mountains and sip on a cuppa of the most famous tea?
This bold was taken by the recently formed committee named the Gorkha Territorial Administration. The committee comprises of hotel owners, political parties, district administration, and the Local police. The only agenda behind this step is to revive the tourism economy that was decaying.
The GTA chief Binay Tamang stated, “We welcome the decision. Tourism is the backbone of the hills. We are all concerned about the virus, but the livelihood has to be saved too. The hotel owners have decided to open their doors again, and people across the country are most welcome. It’s not a risk but a prudent call that we are taking.”
To make sure that the virus doesn't enter the state again, the hotels will have to strictly adhere to the guidelines rolled out by the central government. All the travelers who visit Darjeeling will have to carry their fitness certificate. Every traveler will go through the screening twice, once when they enter Darjeeling and second, before entering the hotel.
If you are planning to take your first trip post lockdown. We recommend you to travel in your personal vehicle.
