Lockdown Creativity: Eco-Friendly Wooden Bicycle by Dhani Ram wins praises from all over Social Media

When the lockdown came in action in March 2020, the world came to a standstill, and many people lost their jobs. But this did not stop Dhani Ram, a 40-year-old carpenter living in Chandigarh. He did not want to waste his time thinking about the lockdown, and rather decided to focus on something productive. With construction put in a complete halt during the lockdown, Dhani Ram decided to create an Eco-Friendly Wooden Bicycle.

Dhani Ram is a carpenter by profession and has been creating interior and furniture for more than 25 years now. From doors and windows to table and cupboard, he has tried his art on many things, but making an Eco-Friendly Wooden Bicycle was the first time.

Though his creativity was constrained to the raw materials available at his home like plywood, tools, and old cycles, it did not come in his way to create something unique and useful.

His first attempt was not so successful, the cycle did not move smoothly, and the wooden handlebars were not quite comfortable. It took him nearly a month to manufacture this cycle for the first time. So for the final product, he bought an old cycle, a local wood type, and began the process all over again. He then modified the cycle with mudguard wheels and a basket in the front which made the cycle move smoothly, thus the rise of the Eco-Friendly Wooden Bicycle.

His 4 months of hard work finally paid off. Dhani Ram has been receiving calls for orders not only from India but also from South Africa and Canada.

One can cover up to 25km a day, and the water-proof resistance makes it easy to cycle during the rains as well. Apart from this, Dhani Ram has also arranged workshops in Punjab that talks about his work.
