Residents came with water and bags of compost to turn empty plots into community gardens.
To make the most environment-friendly use of vacant plots, Koramangala’s resident association took an initiative to transform the empty plots into community gardens in Bangalore.
Led by Koramangala Residents Welfare Association (KRWA), residents have started plantations in the areas near their homes. Where some people have grown vegetables, a few of them preferred growing fruits and flowers.
How did the idea of community gardens in Bangalore implement?
The owners of the empty plots picked 60X40 of space to use for the great cause. And, the community worked together to provide water for building fences. Apart from residents, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the area, Ramalinga Reddy, paid the cost for fencing. He also got a horticulture team to prepare the soil for planting. Residents of other blocks also took pride in providing bags of compost for the initiative.
Community gardens for future
Koramangala, situated in Banglore, has several such vacant plots that usually become dumping grounds. However, after the initiative, the plots now have some beautiful flowering plants to give a pleasing sight. The community garden is also filled with plants of fruits and vegetables like papaya, drumsticks, bananas, etc. Also, the group has taken the responsibility to educate the children about the benefits of the plantation to ensure an eco-friendly future of the area.
