With Christmas around the corner, a man dressed up as Santa Claus and sanitized autos and buses.
In view of the current pandemic, a man dressed up as Santa Claus to spread awareness by carrying out a "cleaning drive" in the Rani Lakshmi chowk area of Mumbai on Thursday.
Ahead of Christmas, the President of Sion Friend Circle Foundation, Ashok Kurmi, distributed masks to children and the local people of the area. He told the news agency, ANI, that he used to distribute chocolates and toys to children every year. However, this year, he thought to aware people regarding prevention from the virus.
Man dressed up as Santa Claus drew lines on the ground
As part of the cleaning drive, he also sanitized autos, buses, and bus stop near the area. Further, he distributed face masks and hand sanitizers to underprivileged children. The pedestrians and passengers using public transport also received masks from this Cleaning Santa. Apart from this, he drew signs on the roads to aware people about the social distancing norms.
The initiative is also being appreciated by social media users. "A very nice initiative by this man, this is the best gift a Santa can give during these times. Kudos to Santa," Udit Singh, a resident of Mumbai said.
During the initial months of lockdown, the members of the NGO had also dressed up as cartoon characters to distribute food and books among children.
As of December 17, India has recorded 9.98 million coronavirus cases.
