Jaipur Literature Festival is back, goes Virtual this year; sessions to begin in February!

Jaipur Literature Festival is a sumptuous feast of ideas and heaven for book lovers from across India and the globe.

To reach out to geographies across the world and due to the ongoing pandemic, Jaipur Literature Festival will organize virtual sessions spread over two extended weekends in February 2021.

The 14th edition of the festival will be held between February 19 to 21 and 26 to 28 in 2021. The live virtual sessions will showcase a plethora of themes curated for audiences across the world. With the usage of augmented reality, the audience will get to experience a real connection with the festival.

Namita Gokhale, Co-director of the festival said, “The Jaipur Literature Festival 2021 will appear in an exciting virtual avatar. Great writers and stellar speakers from around the planet will reach out to the readers. The magical spirit of the festival will be live this coming February for all those who cherish books, ideas and dialogue.”

Like previous years, the festival will continue to remain committed to its core values to provide free and fair access to all. The festival, this year, will include the world’s greatest writers and humanitarians. Some politicians, business leaders, sportspersons, and entertainers will also participate in the event. These thinkers will talk about various subjects including technology, politics, climate change, and mental health. Apart from this, the audience will also get to enjoy the discussions on economics, music, food, film, and travel, etc.

William Dalrymple, writer, historian, and Co-director of the festival said, " Despite pandemic and political upheavals around the world, the JLF continues to spread its wings. While this year's Jaipur will be a quieter affair than usual, our commitment to literary excellence continues undimmed as we present one of our most extraordinary lists to date."

The festival has already announced its first set of speakers which includes Albie Sachs, Bibek Debroy, Carlo Rovelli, Daniel Simpson. Also, sessions of John Zubrzycki, Marina Wheeler, Michael Sandel, and Moin Mir will be organized. To give the audience a real exposure to Hindi and English literature, Moni Mohsin, Navtej Sarna, Oliver Craske, Prasoon Joshi, and Shashi Tharoor will participate. However, the first sessions will also see the active participation of Priya Atwal, Ramachandra Guha, Ranjit Hoskote, Sarbpreet Singh, Shylashri Shankar, Simon Winchester, and Stephen Brusatte.

In addition to the literary sessions, the audience will also get to enjoy the music sessions with performances by leading artists. The customary Festival merchandise and books by participating authors will be available online on the Jaipur Literature Festival’s official website.
