A bookstore in Kochi is winning the hearts of book lovers since its inception in July 2020. And the reason being the unique structure at its top that seems like four books are combined.
'Once Upon a Time' book shop is situated near the SP office along the Aluva-Perumbavoor private bus route. The shop received international recognition even before it was opened. Paulo Coelho posted a picture of the shop on his social media, and ever since then, it got the name. The top design of the building has a replica representation of the book by Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, along with the other three books. Moby Dick’ by Herman Melville, ‘Aadujeevitham’ by Benyamin, and ‘Harry Potter' by J K Rowling are amongst the other three books that constitute the topmost portion.
The book store is a four-storey building. ‘The size of the building is 3,400-sq-ft established on five cents (area of 1/100 of an acre) of land.
In addition, the interior of the book store, too, does not leave a chance to please book lovers. The four floors of the shop appear in four different colours. Also, the railings of the 40-ft steel staircase has the facility to arrange books on contemporary style. The store offers Hindi, English and Malayalam books along with 'Once Upon a Time' notebooks.
Aji Kumar, from Choondi in Ernakulam, and his wife V M Manju own this book shop. Aji was as an assistant engineer with the electricity board. And, Manju was a software engineer at the TCS. However, the couple had left their jobs in 2007 to start a tuition centre in Aluva. Since then, the duo has been helping those students who fail to clear BTech exam. And, the interest in books, then, motivated them to open a book store.
The people on social media had much appreciated the design of the store by Roy Thomas and KK Vinod after Paulo Coelho had shared the post.
