Koppal, popular for making traditional kinnal toys will have India's first toy manufacturing hub.
India is on its way to leave the strong presence of Chinese plastic toys behind in the domestic market. Very soon, Karnataka is going to be India's first toy manufacturing hub. The hub is located at Koppal, popular for making kinnal toys carved in wood.
On January 9, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had performed the groundbreaking ceremony. The toy cluster will manufacture plastic toys. Recently, the government had allowed shops to remain open 24×7 to spur economic growth. The toy cluster also aims to contribute towards it.
The area for the toy cluster is over 400 acres. And, it includes 100 toy manufacturing units. The cluster will provide materials like plastic, steel and electronics for toy making. It will also have skilled labours for the manufacturing of toys.
The Koppal toy cluster has come as positive news for Koppal locals. Toy cluster, an initiative of Aequs Infra, aims to create employment for the locals. Within the next five years, it is expecting to generate over one lakh direct and indirect jobs.
Since a long time, the traditional Kinnal toymakers are suffering from floods, drought and COVID. The move is expected to boost the economy in the interior regions. It will also help local producers.
