Flight lieutenant Bhawana Kanth has become the first woman fighter pilot to participate in the parade of Republic Day this year. She is presently posted in Rajasthan.
Women are continuing to make the country proud. Another example of this would be visible when Flight lieutenant Bhawana Kanth will become the first woman fighter pilot to take part in the Republic Day parade.
Bhawana Kanth, who is currently posted at an airbase in Rajasthan, will be a part of the Indian Air Force's (IAF's) tableau. The tableau will showcase mock-ups of the light combat aircraft, light combat helicopter and the Sukhoi-30 fighter plane. In Rajasthan, she flies the MiG-21 Bison fighter plane.
The Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan congratulated Kanth by tweeting on Monday. He said that Kanth is "marking the dawn of empowered women-led New India". He also said that "it's a proud moment for the country".
Kanth belongs to Darbhanga district in Bihar and was brought up in Begusarai. She had completed her schooling from Barauni Refinery DAV Public School. However, she moved to Bengaluru for her graduation. She had studied B.E. (medical electronics) from BMS College of Engineering, Bengaluru.
In 2016, Bhawana Kanth, along with Avani Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh, had joined Indian Air Force. All three of them were the first batch of women fighter pilots to join the Indian Air Force.
Rafale's entry
In the Republic Day Parade this year, Rafale fighter jets will also be involved for the first time. Rafales, SU-30s, and MiG-29s will be among 45 aircrafts taking participation in Republic Day flypast.
Five Rafale fighter jets built in France were commissioned into the IAF on September 10, 2020. One more batch of three fighter jets will also reach India on January 27.
