Treating patients for the last 14 years, Dr. Sunil Kumar Hebbi aka the Mobile Doctor has converted his Mahindra into a mobile clinic!
It was an accident that Dr.Hebbi had witnessed at Hosur Road during the first year of his college that led him to start a mobile clinic. He had taken the patient to a nearby hospital and realized the importance of a first aid kit or medical equipment in the car. The mother of the patient later met him and thanked him for his help.
"She even touched my feet, and it made me emotional. That is when I decided to start my own mobile clinic and help such patients.", said Dr. Sunil Kumar Hebbi.
After 8 months, Dr.Hebbi managed to equip his car with a portable chair, ECG Machine, BP Apparatus, oximeter, thermometer, and other necessary medical items. In these 14 years, Dr.Hebbi has organized 785 free medical camps across Karnataka and has cured and helped 90,000 patients. " It's a 100% volunteer-based initiative and is supported by people who want to help.", he said.
In the beginning, Dr.Hebbi would do this social work only on weekends, but later after clearing his loans, he started doing it full time. In 2008, he left his stable job at Bangalore Corporate Hospital and started an NGO called Matru Siri Foundation. " According to a government data, every year 24 Lakhs patients are dying in treatable condition. The health care sector is in a bad condition, and all I am trying is to help as many people as I can", he added.
Helping 15 to 25 patients every day!
During this pandemic, his mobile clinic is helping 15 to 25 patients every day. It has an oxygen concentrator and other essential equipment. "We're helping people with the medical consultation. We are also providing patients with COVID-19 essentials like medicines, masks, sanitizer & oximeter for free.", he said.
Dr.Hebbi is a COVID-19 Warrior for many reasons. He is running a clinic on wheels, has recently opened a COVID-19 Hi-Tech Center, and is treating people for free. This Bengaluru doctor has even spent all his savings to ensure that others are doing well. " I had invested all my savings during the outburst of the coronavirus pandemic to buy medicines and other necessary equipment, and now I'm financially crunching. I would like to request all the doctors to volunteer with us as it would be a big help.", he said.
Dr.Hebbi is an inspiration. He does night duty at a BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) COVID-19 clinic, then takes a two-hour break, and by 10 drive across Bengaluru to help senior citizens and patients with mild Coronavirus symptoms.
