This family has distributed more than 3,000 meals to COVID-19 patients all across Jodhpur!

Mahesh Mathur, his family, and friends are delivering meals to COVID-positive patients in Jodhpur for the last 1.5 months, and that too at a price of just Rs.35.

This pandemic has been harsh on many people. Many patients are in home isolation and have no one to feed them. Their bodies are weak, and they can't taste food. Helping such people, a family decided to cook meals for the COVID-19 patients at a pocket-friendly price of just Rs.35. " One of my relatives in Delhi was COVID positive. The eatery from where he was getting the food was charging a lot. This made me think and we decided to keep the price Rs.35 per plate.", said Mahesh Mathur.

Mahesh Mathur, along with his wife Vinita, brother Dharmendra and sister-in-law Vandana Mathur started this kind initiative of delivering meals to COVID-19 patients. They started on 20th April 2021 and delivered food to patients across Jodhpur every single day. " We were making 170 to 180 tiffin per day. However, now the orders have reduced but we are still delivering food. My wife and my sister-in-law cook the meal, and then we deliver it in our car", he said. The meal is hygienic and serves different dishes such as Malai Kofta, Aloo sabzi, Bhindi Sabzi, Rice, and Dal. " We have always tried making the food as delicious as possible. Also, we have never said no to anyone. Be it 5 Kms or 10 kms, be it 20 tiffins or just 1, we have always taken orders.", Vandana Mathur said."

This team of COVID-19 warriors has been delivering food to different hospitals, patients in home isolation, and their attendants for the last one and a half months. The family takes all necessary precautions while cooking and delivering food. " Everybody wears masks and keeps themselves sanitized. We have a packing machine also, thus we do not have to touch the food and so it is safe. Also, we always keep the food outside their house and maintain social distancing", Mr. Dharmendra Mathur added.

Since the situation is getting better Mahesh Mathur is planning to stop this initiative. But, when people came to know about it, they requested him to not do that. " Many of them said the food is really helping them. Some of them even said if you want, you can double the price.", said Vinita Mathur.

"To be honest I couldn’t get the taste in initial days. But once I got my taste senses back, I realized the food was good & healthy too. The variety of dishes that were sent is commendable. Plus the good wishes on the sticky notes gave me a smile in the toughest time. I am glad that we are living in a society where not only adults but children are also taking the initiative to help people. Team Sahyog we are proud of you.", says Poonam, one of their food recipient.

The kids in the family take up the responsibility to pack the meals and distribute them to various homes. The family has also served traditional food during the festivals like Aakha Teej to patients with Kheech and is doing everything the can make them feel happier.
