1. Karnataka government gives reservation to transgender persons in government jobs
In a welcoming move, the government of Karnataka decided to give 1% of vacancies to the people belonging to the transgender community. The rule will be applied to all persons in each category of general, SC, ST, OBCs, etc. However, it has been decided that if the transgender persons are not able to fill the "1%", the vacancies will be filled by males or females.
2. Mumbai appoints tree surgeon to protect trees
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) appointed an arborist or a tree surgeon, Vaibhav Raje to check old trees and protect them from falling. Now, Mr. Raje is likely to study 100-150 trees in Malabar hill, Tardeo, and Peddar Road of Mumbai. Based on the research done by the tree surgeon about the fungal infections and other problems that make a tree fall, the project will be expanded to other parts of Mumbai.
3. Rajasthan-based climate activist receives UN land Conservation Award
Shyam Sundar Jyani, who hails from Rajasthan, won the prestigious United Nations' Land for Life Award. He was shortlisted with other 12 activists from across the globe. However, his environment conservation concept and familial forestry, a campaign to transferring the care of the tree and the environment to the family, made him win the award.
4. Netizens collect 73,000 in 12 hours to gift a bike to a delivery man
After Robin Mukesh, a resident of Hyderabad observed the delivery boy, Mohammed Aqeel arriving on his cycle to deliver the order made, Mukesh put his photo on Facebook. He also asked other users to give him a tip on seeing him. However, impressed by how Aqeel came on the cycle to deliver the order drenching in rain, netizens crowdfunded money in 12 hours and gifted a TVS XL bike to him. That's the power of the internet!
5. Son of an auto driver from Vizag becomes IAF officer
Suribabu, who is riding auto for the past 25 years is now a proud father as his son, G Gopinadh has been commissioned as a flying officer in the Indian Air Force. Moreover, Gopinadh is the only candidate from the two Telugu states to have been selected as an IAF officer this year.
