An appreciable effort has been made by the government of Karnataka to reserve 1% vacancies of all government jobs for transgender persons. Being the first state in India to take such an initiative, it will take the candidates for the jobs through direct recruitment.

2. Maharashtra to begin door-step vaccination drive from August 1

As good news, the Maharashtra government has announced to start the door-step vaccination drive from August 1 in Mumbai. The vaccines will be given free of cost to those people who cannot step out of their homes due to some physical illness and health problems. The drive will also include elderly people and those using wheelchairs.

The 53-year-old Sukhram from Yamunanagar has been collecting historical and antique coins from rivers, especially, Yamuna for the past 35 years. Though he has a good collection of them now, he has also sold some of them to manage his expenses. He is also popular in his area for saving thousands of people from drowning.

4. Mumbai students take the initiative to upcycle plastic bottles

To protect the environment from the hazards of plastic bottles, ten management students studying at Universal Business School in Mumbai started Project Roop. Through their initiative, they will be gathering plastic bottles and recycling them to further use them to cultivate plants through hydroponics- a method of horticulture to grow plants in nutrient-rich water rather than soil.
