1. Neeraj Chopra wins India's first gold at Tokyo Olympics
Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra created history at the Tokyo Olympics by winning India's first Olympic gold medal in the men's javelin throw final. The 23-year-old won with a massive throw of 87.58 meters in the men's final. After his win, various state governments have announced prize money for him.
2. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award renamed
Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed the highest sporting honor Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award after popular hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The motive for the rename as stated by the PM, is to appreciate the performance of the men's and women's hockey teams at the Tokyo Olympics and boost the spirit of hockey in the country.
3. Punjab to rename schools, roads after winners of Olympic medals
Since India has performed well at the Tokyo Olympics, and for the first time, bagged 7 medals, the Punjab School Education and Public Works Department Minister Vijay Inder Singla has decided to rename the roads and the schools in the state after the names of the Olympic medal players.
4. Surat installs 58 sculptures made of waste across the city
Surat Municipal Corporation has taken up a project to utilize the waste for the beautification of the city. Under this, they have already installed 58 sculptures after collecting waste and involving artists.
