1. Centre launches initiative to make villages open-defecation free
The Jal Shakti Ministry has launched the 'SUJALAM' initiative as part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations to create open defecation free plus villages by working for the wastewater management at the local level. The initiative will also build a soak pit for the villagers at home, likely to cost Rs 3,000- Rs 5,000.
2. North Delhi Municipal Corporation to set up a waste processing plant
North Delhi Municipal Corporation aims to set up a plastic waste processing plant that could process 50 tonnes per day at Tikri Kalan. The civic body has also worked on an action plan to discard single-use plastic and implement the plastic waste management rules of 2016.
3. Ayodhya to become a solar city
Ayodhya will soon become a solar city after the recently taken decision to meet the energy requirements of the city. As per the plan, solar panels will be installed on roofs of houses, government buildings, commercial and industrial establishments, and other places.
4. Web portal gets into India's Book of Records for creating a family tree
A Kodava clan portal, which had been created by Bengaluru-based Kishore Uthappa five years ago, has entered India's Book of Records for creating a family tree of more than 16,000 individuals, covering 14 generations since the 16th century. Due to this, any subscriber of the portal can enter their details and get the information of their family.
5. Ranchi man, once a child labourer, works to prevent trafficking
Baidnath Kumar used to be a child laborer. However, now, he is working to prevent child and women trafficking and has rescued more than 5,000 trafficked women and children in a decade. He has also adopted a seven-year-old girl from Delhi whose parents could not be traced. The girl is now studying in school, and Baidnath is taking care of all the expenses.
