1. India to have the biggest man-made forest in Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh is soon going to have the biggest man-made forest of India at a mining belt Nandini in Durg district, which is about 55 km from Raipur. The plan has been taken to include this area because it has remained barren and abandoned for a long time. The forest will be spread up to an area of 3,777 acres, where 1,120 acres have already been transformed into a forest.
2. Survey finds Mumbai to be the second-most honest city
A survey conducted by Reader's Digest magazine has found out that Mumbai is the second-most honest city in the world after Helsinki, Finland. The results came after an experiment carried out with 100 people living in 16 cities, namely New York, Amsterdam, Berlin, Mumbai, etc. As part of the research, the team dropped the wallet containing coupons, business cards, and Rs 4,000 cash to check and record how many people return the wallets.
3. Cyclist brothers from Tamil Nadu plant 5,000 saplings in 48 hours
Arun(25) and Shrikanth(22) from Kallamanaickerpatti of Vembakottai had started their mission, 'Cycling for recycling' in 2019 to cover the distance from Kanyakumari to Mumbai. However, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, they started planting saplings on a large scale and planted nearly 5,000 saplings of 30 kinds of trees in 48 hours in January this year. They also run an NGO N-India, to create awareness about the environment.
4. Kerala project helps tribals join colleges
A project of the district administration of Kozhikode named 'Gothraprabha' to help tribal students get to colleges has started showing results as many as 13 students have secured admission to SB College, Changanassery. For the success of this project, 72 mentor teachers, all belonging to the tribal community, were trained to guide the students.
5. College project in Chennai ends tribals' struggle for portable water
Seven students from Madras Christian College, who were working on a college project aiming to identify tribal hamlets without any basic facilities, found one such village where 30 families were facing water problems for the last three generations. Located in Tirukazhukundram, the tribals now have access to the drinking water as the student's group has set up a water tank for them by arranging all necessary amenities.
