Under Innovative Ideas of catering policy, Indian Railways' Central Railway(CR) zone has opened up Mumbai's first Restaurant on Wheels at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CMST), and now you can dine-in near the city's most iconic railway station.
Mumbaikars, Something delicious and bite-worthy has happened in the city today! Next time you visit CSMT, make sure you have an empty stomach as our beloved railway station now has Mumbai’s first restaurant on wheels. Yes, you read it right! Now you can enjoy a delicious meal while sitting in a restaurant which is created with a discarded rail coach.
This restaurant coach mounted on rails can be found at the Heritage Gully, opposite Platform No. 18 at CSMT. The Heritage gully is an open-air railway museum. It is popular for displaying India's first electric locomotive, vintage narrow gauge steam, an electric locomotive with old fire engines, and more. This newly made restaurant on wheels is adding a new charm to the iconic Heritage Gully, has 10 tables, and can serve 40 persons inside easily.
The exterior, as well as the interior of this restaurant, looks great. The coach is coated with beautiful mustard yellow paint and has brilliant illustrations of Mumbai's landmarks along with an illustration of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The inside of the restaurant has rail-themed decor and looks pretty colorful. The cuisine includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Once the restaurant becomes fully operational, people will even be able to order food online. It will also have a mini cafe and a takeaway window for beverages in the future.
The railways is expecting to earn around Rs.42 lakh from the restaurant. It is even planning to have more such restaurants at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus(LTT), Kalyan, and Borivali.
Well, we think it's a great step towards recycling, and can't wait to enjoy a meal inside this colourful rail coach, what about you?
