Jhanvi paints beautiful designs on a piece of cloth and makes customized apparel through her venture Jhanvi M Couture. Let's look at her journey from a "no" to a home studio.
“I was always passionate about designs and prints and wanted to join fashion school & learn about textiles, prints, etc,” says Jhanvi, the founder of Jhanvi M Couture. She did her graduation in commerce background but was always leaning toward art. She tried convincing her parents about the idea of learning fashion, but they rejected the idea saying that ”fashion schools are meant for rich people.” Hearing this she got disappointed but didn’t lose hope and kept on learning different art forms such as surface pattern designing, and fabric painting from youtube. This leisure activity of hers even got her huge recognition. Her COVID poster got selected in the Top 210 listings all over the world in a competition held by the India Council of cultural relations.
Passion for Fashion
All was going well but as the lockdown period came to an end, Jhanvi had to leave her art and focus on studying on the urge of her parents. She did that for the sake of doing it but couldn’t divert her mind from her passion and learned tie and dye. Gradually she started looking for customers to buy her tie and dyed products. “While preparing for my MBA entrances I got a paid collaboration from one of the Homegrown brands, Freakins India to paint on their garments, this was huge for me and I grabbed the offer,” says the founder of Jhanvi M Couture.
This was the moment for her to reveal her passion for fashion and designing and Jhanvi went on straight to her parents. She asked her parents for a studio as her work was getting recognition. Her parents agreed to this decision and Jhanvi now owns a home studio where her mom looks after stitching with Masterji, her dad is the investor, and she looks after the designing and hand painting part with her small team of Karigars who focus on hand work and machine work.
The products that Jhanvi M Couture offer are unique and have original designs with imprints of flowers, Japanese Cranes, and tie-dye art. Hand Painted clothing for males, females, and kids in Western outfits and ethnic styles like drapes, lehengas, sarees, tops, unstitched suits, dupattas, denim, shirts, Nehru jackets, co-ord sets, and Linen shirts can be customized. Jhanvi’s brand can be a true example of “wish and willingness can make anything happen.”
