When one person donates a unit of blood, it can be separated into individual components to save multiple lives. General Criteria for Blood Donors:

• The person should be fit and in a healthy condition.
• Should be between the ages of 18 to 65 years.
• Weight should be more than 45 kgs (in most cases).
• Should have Hameoglobin more than 12.5 gm/dl.
• The donation interval for whole blood donation should be once in three months for males and four months for females.
• The donor should not have had malaria in the last three months.
• The donor should not have had jaundice or typhoid in the last year.
• The donor should not have Uncontrolled Thyroid disorders, Diabetes, Heart disease, cardiovascular diseases or infectious diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis B or C or Cancer (other diseases may vary as per the donation centre).
• Should not have had a blood transfusion in the last 12 months.
• Other requirements as per the donation centre or doctor's guidelines.

• Bangalore Medical Services Trust

Bangalore Medical Services Trust (BMST) is a not-for-profit organisation of the Rotary Club of Bangalore and the TTK group of companies. They have been providing blood banking and transfusion services to hospitals & patients in Bangalore and surrounding districts since 1984. They also help in organising blood donation drives in Bangalore.

• Navarang Blood Bank

Navarang Blood Bank is a unit of R.K.Trust located in Rajajinagar, Bangalore. It is a 24/7 blood bank but donations hours are specific. Contact them for further details.

• Rashtrotthana Blood Centre

Rashtrotthana Blood Centre is one of the major service projects of Rashtrotthana Parishat. It provides identification of blood groups, registration of blood donors, giving information regarding blood donors to those in need of blood, etc.

• Karnataka Red Cross Blood Centre

Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch has been a destination for blood donation of people in the state. It has 9 blood banks which run 24/7 and supplies blood to more than 25 blood storage units throughout the state. The society operates Blood Mobile Bus as well.

Sankalp India Foundation is a youth organization. One can enrol on their website as a voluntary blood donor, donate at their centres in Bangalore and even organize blood camps with their help.
