Antaran, a pioneering initiative within Tata Trusts' craft-based livelihood program, is set to captivate Mumbai with its latest exhibition, "Crafts Confluence: Antaran X Ensemble."
This event promises to be a celebration of rich weaving heritage from six craft clusters of India - Nalbari, Kamrup, Maniabandha, Gopalpur, Nagaland, and Venkatagiri - inviting residents of Mumbai to immerse themselves in the world of handwoven textiles. This exhibition is a must-attend for anyone who craves the allure of artistry and desires to champion preserving India's traditional craft skills.
What to Expect:
- Handwoven Mulberry, Tussar, and Eri Silk Products: Colourful silk sarees adorned with intricate weft ikat designs from Maniabandha, Odisha. Tussar silk creations by Gopalpur, Odisha weavers, featuring jaala, extra weft, shibori, and ikat techniques. The opulence of mulberry silk sarees with zari in a variety of colours and designs from Venkatagiri, Andhra. The elegance of mulberry silk sarees and mekhelas with the extra weft technique from Nalbari, Assam. Naturally dyed Eri silk products, handwoven with extra weft techniques to create a lifted embroidered look, all from Kamrup, Assam.
- Handwoven Cotton Products: Cotton X Kesha Paat Mekhelas and sarees, cotton jamdani sarees, dupattas, and cotton sarees adorned with intricate zari work from Venkatagiri.
- Naga Loin Loom woven Home Furnishings: Exquisite home furnishings, including cotton cushion covers, throws, and table linens, all intricately crafted by artisans from Nagaland. An array of fashion accessories such as laptop bags, wallets, and pouches featuring traditional Naga motifs, all meticulously hand woven by women artisans on backstrap looms, give the fabrics a unique texture.
