Maharashtra elections won by Mahayuti
Mahayuti which comprises the BJP, NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) has won the Maharashtra elections, the results for which were announced on Saturday. The coalition party won 231 seats out of 288 in the Assembly elections of the state. The opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi managed only 49 seats. The elections are likely to see major transformations in the infrastructure of the state.
Rishabh Pant becomes the most expensive cricket player
Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League after the wicketkeeper-batter was sold for $3.2 million to the team Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday. Pant overtook Shreyas Iyer, who went to Punjab Kings for $3.18 million. This was a part of the cricket mega auction, hosted for the first time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Winter sessions of Parliament begins today
The winter session of the Parliament began today soon after the elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand. The houses are likely to discuss the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill amongst many others. The winter session will continue till December 20, 2024.
Traffic rules in Delhi today over Samvidhan Divas Padyatra
As per the traffic police of Delhi, there are curbs in Delhi today over the Samvidhan Divas Padyatra as no vehicle will be allowed to halt or park anywhere on the C-Hexagon and the nearby areas when the march is taking place. The offending vehicles will be towed and prosecuted for improper parking and also for disobeying lawful instructions. Moreover, towed vehicles will be parked in the traffic pit, which is in front of Bhairon Mandir on Bhairon Marg.
HP court allows 9 hotels to work till March
Himachal Pradesh court, which had ordered the closure of 18 Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) hotels calling them, "white elephants" has now allowed nine of them to be open and functional until March 31 next year. The hotels include The Palace Hotel (Chail), Hotel Devdar (Khajjiar), The Castle (Naggar), Hotel Meghdoot (Kiarighat), Hotel Chandrabhaga (Keylong), Hotel Log Huts (Manali), Hotel Kunzum (Manali), Hotel Bhagsu (Mcleodganj) and Hotel Dhauladhar (Dharamshala).
Swiggy Acquires World Pickleball League’s Mumbai Team
Swiggy, a food delivery brand has got the ownership of the Mumbai team in the World Pickleball League (WPBL), India’s global franchise-based pickleball league. The inaugural season of the WPBL is set to take place from January 24 to February 2, 2025. Pickleball has been a growing sport in India and this acquisition hints at the growing recreational trend.
Alcohol permit denied for Diljit Dosanjh's Pune concert
The excise department of Maharashtra has cancelled a permit to serve alcohol at the Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh's Dil-Luminati concert in Pune. Moreover, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP's youth wing has also issued warnings of protests against Dosanjh's concert. Lately, the singer has been criticised for promoting alcohol and violence through his songs and he was also told by the Telangana government to not sing songs about alcohol.
Bandra railway station to get open-air restaurant
The Western Railway (WR) is about to launch Mumbai's first open-air restaurant on wheels with the first being at the Bandra Railway Station. This unique solution has been announced to resolve the haphazardly parked auto-rickshaws outside Bandra West railway station. The restaurant will include seating, both inside the coach and outside and will be featured with a podium for live musical performances.
