First case of Mpox reported in India
On Sunday, India announced the first possible incidence of the Mpox virus in a young male patient who had just returned from a nation where the illness was on the rise. However, the report by the Union Health Ministry did not clarify the name of the patient and the place were the reporting occurred. The patient has been isolated in a designated hospital and is currently stable, as per the report.
Swiggy Skills initiative in collaboration with the Government to provide skilling and employment opportunities
Swiggy, India's online food ordering and delivery company has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to launch "Swiggy Skills". This initiative aims to provide skilling and employment opportunities within Swiggy's vast food delivery and quick commerce network. Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Minister of State for Education, officially introduced this program.
More than 10,000 Ganesh idols immersed in Mumbai till late evening on Sunday
As the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi comes to an end, several Mumbaikars bid adieu to the Lord. According to the commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Bhushan Gagrani, more than 10,000 Ganesh idols were immersed in the city till late in the evening, as reported by Hindustan Times. This marks the immersion of one and a half day Ganpati from houses and pandals.
42,000 women recite Atharvashirsha and perform Mah Aarti at Dagdusheth Ganpati in Pune
As a part of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, over 42,000 women gathered and recited Ganapati Atharvashirsha - Sanskrit text and a minor Upanishad of Hinduism at Pune's famous Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir. After the prayers, they even participated in the Maha Aarti on the second day of this festival. This event is organised by the Temple Trust as a part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations every year.
New Aadhaar applicants in Assam need to submit their NRC receipt number
Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Saturday, announced that all new applicants for Aadhaar cards in Assam need to submit their NRC application receipt number (ARN). This move comes after the Government found the applications for Aadhaar cards were more than the population indicating doubtful citizens. This will "stop the influx of illegal foreigners" and the state government will be "very strict" in issuing Aadhaar cards, the CM said in a press conference.
Maharashtra Government to charge no toll from September 5 to September 19
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has declared that followers of Ganesh who go to Konkan between September 5 and September 19 will not have to pay tolls. However, there are stringent steps to be followed as per a declaration released by the Government. A senior public works department official said that a self-declaration proforma will have to be downloaded from the state government's website, filled and pasted on thick, black paper which has to be tapped on the FasTag sticker so that no RFID scanner can read the card.
