Here's a list of the top 10 cleanest and dirtiest cities in India in 2023 based on the assessment of cleanliness and sanitation practices by the government of India.
Swachh Survekshan 2023, an annual cleanliness survey report was released recently and like always, there were a few cities that ranked at the top on the chart for their cleanliness and some ranked at the bottom. Here’s the list of the top 10 cleanest and dirtiest cities in India in 2023 according to the assessment of the Quality Council of India (QCI) and the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.
The cities are scored from 1000 points based on their cleanliness and sanitation practices. In the 2023 drive, 4,447 urban local bodies participated with over 12 crore responses from the citizens making it the largest cleanliness survey in the world.
While it was a proud moment for Madhya Pradesh as Indore stood at the top of the chart for the 7th consecutive year, all 10 of the dirtiest cities were from West Bengal. Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh were recognized as the cleanest states in India and Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Nagaland lagged in terms of cleanliness and sanitation facilities.
