Booming Brands - Volume 1 is a book about the journey of some of the most remarkable Indian start-ups from various fields. Written by business storyteller and brand expert Harsh Pamnani, this book talks about how these start-ups have cracked the code of brand building. With journeys of brands like BookMyShow, Shaadi.com, Zomato, Goli Vada Pav, Paper Boat and others, aspiring entrepreneurs can take inspiration for their budding ventures with the help of this book.

The setting of the book

The book starts with the personal experiences of Harsh as a brand expert. In his career with companies like FirstCry, Icertis and HSBC to name a few, he has seen many brands struggling and only a few thriving. His curiosity about knowing the success stories of these few successful brands made him join TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), an NPO that fosters entrepreneurship through mentoring, networking, education, funding and incubation. From his interactions on this platform with multimillion-dollar organisations, he documented a book on the failure and challenges a business has to face before thriving.

The Book

Harsh has divided each section into three parts; the beginning of the brand's journey, the brand name and business lessons which give an overall picture of the brand. These sections though elaborative, get a little repetitive with the business lessons segment. Although the book is for marketing professionals and entrepreneurs, even a layman can read it due to its simple language, which sometimes becomes an issue with extraneous information.

The brand's journey also mentions the founders' journey, their way through life and the inception of the idea behind their businesses. In a way, this makes the book engaging for young entrepreneurs who can avoid mistakes made by these successful people. It can be a good case study for marketing students who want to take real-life scenarios into consideration for their projects and assignments.

If this excites you, you must read this book. You can explore case studies on Ashish Hemrajani, founder of BookMyShow (a comprehensive online ticketing platform); Arunachalam Muruganantham (Padman), founder of Jayashree Industries (a sanitary pads brand); Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com (an online wedding service); Neeraj Kakkar, Neeraj Biyani, Suhas Misra, and James Nuttall from Paper Boat (a beverage company); Allwin Agnel, founder of PaGaLGuY (an education network); and other brands in the food, kids, design, ed-tech, and energy industries.
