Born and Brought up in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, fondly called A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was the 11th president of India who served the office from 2002 to 2007. Apart from the political position, however, Dr. Kalam is a renowned scientist who also worked as a science administrator, mainly at the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). However, reportedly, he also involved himself in India's civilian space programme and military missile development works.
This museum, the first of its kind in South India, depicts Dr. Kalam’s inspirational journey, highlighting all major events. It also features an image of Rameswaram, offering a nostalgic glimpse into his childhood. The museum operates with the support of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and showcases rare photographs, including those from his time in parliament. It houses Dr. Kalam's personal memorabilia, such as his books and pens. Visitors might be amazed to learn that it also displays the coat he wore at a function in Shillong shortly before his passing.
