History of Kalka Shimla Toy Train

During the British era before India's Independence Shimla (earlier called Simla) was declared as the summer capital of the British empire. During that time there was poor connectivity to travel to Shimla and eventually, the conveyance facility was really low whatever route was available, was either risky or consumed a lot of time.

So to provide easy and safe conveyance and quick convenient travelling, the Kalka Shimla narrow-gauge train was started by the British in November 1903. Lord Curzon inaugurated the first ride, and ever since, the train has operated daily, except for scheduled maintenance breaks.
