Minimum budget and international trip vibe? Mark it done. A small town Khajjiar, often referred to as the "Mini Switzerland of India," is a picturesque hill station nestled in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
Surrounded by the Dhauladhar mountain range and located at an altitude of 6,500 feet, Khajjiar is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and pleasant climate throughout the year. The place derives its name from the Khajinag Temple, dedicated to Khajji Nag, the serpent god. This enchanting destination captivates visitors with its lush green meadows, dense forests, and tranquil lake, creating a serene ambiance reminiscent of the Swiss landscapes.
Various Attractions In A Small Town
One of the prime attractions in Khajjiar is the vast saucer-shaped meadow, often called the "Khajjiar Ground." Encircled by tall pine trees, this meadow provides a stunning view of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Visitors can indulge in various activities such as picnics, horse riding, and simply soaking in the tranquility of the surroundings.
The Khajjiar Lake, located in the middle of the meadow, adds to the scenic charm of the place. The lake is surrounded by a walking path, allowing tourists to leisurely explore its beauty. The highlight is the floating island, which is grass growing on the lake’s surface.
The quaint village of Khajjiar is also home to several temples, including the aforementioned Khajinag Temple located on the bank of Khajjiar Lake, which adds a cultural and historical dimension to the visit. The temple has idols of snakes, Lord Shiva and Goddess Hadimba, as well as images of the Pandavas and Kauravas.

Khajjiar is not only a visual treat but also offers opportunities for adventure enthusiasts. The dense deodar forests surrounding the meadow provide trekking trails, allowing visitors to explore the region's natural beauty on foot. The trek to the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is particularly popular, offering glimpses of diverse flora and fauna.
