Tripathi Kothi

Mirzapur is not only known for its thrilling cinematography, skilled cast like Pankaj Tripathi, and captivating storyline, but also for the places where this Amazon Prime OTT series is shot, which have garnered much fame as well. Many important scenes have been shot at the various ghats of Varanasi, making the city a major shooting location for the Mirzapur web series. Moreover, Banaras is a popular filming location for some iconic movies and series like Raanjhanaa (2013) and Masaan (2015).

Tripathi Kothi

Kaleen Bhaiya’s mansion, known as 'Tripathi Kothi' in the OTT series, is Varanasi’s Azmatgarh Palace or Moti Jheel Mahal. The view of the mansion seen in the series is not artificial.

Built between 1904 and 1908 by Banaras's zamindar Raja Moti Chand in Mahmoorganj, this palace is being taken care of by his grandson Ashok Kumar Gupta. At that time, the British had given Moti Chand the title of 'Rajaji'. Currently, Ashok Kumar Gupta lives here with his entire family. However, he did give his house on rent for shooting Mirzapur.

The name of this palace was prefixed with the word ‘Lake’ because, at that time, Moti Chand had taken permission to construct a lake behind the palace around the year 1913. The architecture of this palace is very different from all others in the area. This makes it eye-catching and draws the attention of everyone who passes by. The distance from Varanasi to Mahmoorganj is just 10 minutes. The mansion is just 4 km from Varanasi railway station.

Scenes from many films like Ayushmann Khurrana's Shubh Mangal Savdhan have also been shot here. While the palace is private property and off-limits to visitors, the Moti Jheel next to it can be explored by visitors.
